“The Divine Bette”
48x24 Mixed Media
Artwork Description: "Whispers Through Lotus Mist" by Wendy De Rycke 16 x 40 Mixed Media $1,000 This mixed-media work combines traditional Chinese brush painting with layered contemporary presentation. The imagery was created using Chinese ink and colored mineral chips on Xuan paper, allowing the absorbent surface to capture spontaneous gesture, tonal diffusion, and breath-driven line. Calligraphic practice forms the underlying structure of the composition, while a lotus pond motif emerges across the upper surface, uniting meditation, movement, and natural rhythm. Two individual paintings on Xuan paper were later mounted onto canvas, creating stability while preserving the delicacy and translucency of the original brushwork. The final piece reflects a dialogue between disciplined tradition and intuitive expression, where stillness, water, and gesture merge into a quiet contemplative space. “Threshold of Awakening”
Artwork Description: This mixed-media painting marks the beginning of an unfolding series exploring inner transformation and emergence. The canvas was first painted, then layered with a figure created in ink on rice paper and carefully adhered to the surface. A flowing gold river and areas of gold leaf introduce movement and illumination, while distressed inks were sprayed across textured materials and stenciled layers to build depth. Patterned tissue and Kozo papers form the dress, integrating collage with painted elements. Art Deco and Klimt-inspired stencils further enrich the surface, linking historical ornament with contemporary expression. The gold river extends vertically through the composition, guiding the eye from earth to ascent. The work is sealed with UV protection and a matte varnish. EMAIL: wendyannderycke@gmail.com
“Whispers Through Lotus Mist”
16x40 Mixed Media
10x10 Mixed Media $100
Artwork Description: This intimate mixed-media portrait celebrates theatrical presence, individuality, and icon-like femininity. The face is hand-drawn in acrylic pen and softly modeled with acrylic washes, while the luminous hair is formed from hand-painted paper enriched with flowing gold line. Collaged elements—including crossword fragments, craft papers, and repurposed book pages—create a layered narrative surface that blends memory, language, and identity. The composition balances playful construction with reverence for classic stage glamour. A final epoxy resin finish unifies the materials and adds depth, preserving the work’s radiant, jewel-like presence. EMAIL: wendyannderycke@gmail.com
