Honorable Judge Mickey Sprott
Mickey Sprott is the cultural program supervisor for public art at Clark County, Nevada in the Department of Parks and Recreation. Ms. Sprott manages the Public Art Office focused on creating large scale public art in both rural and urban settings, education for the professional artist, youth education, operates two galleries, and oversees the conservation of the collection. Ms. Sprott holds a masters degree in public administration and a bachelors degree in art with a minor in art history. She is a member of the Americans for the Arts and the Vice Chair of the City of Las Vegas Arts Commission. The County Arts Plan was established in 2013 using the percent for the arts model.
Juror Brian “Paco” Álvarez
Las Vegas native Brian “Paco” Álvarez is an entrepreneur, graduate student in the Urban Leadership program at UNLV, and holds a bachelors degree in Anthropology from UNLV. Paco is the founder of Fabulous Story Tours and Psionic Art Works two start-ups based in Las Vegas. His passion and love of art and culture have been the driving force behind his career, but most importantly realizes that his passion is what drives a dynamic economy. He supports STEAM education over STEM education, because as he says, “STEAM propels us forward, and STEM, at the end of the day is just a stick.”
Juror Angela Brommel
Angela M. Brommel is the Executive Director of the Office of Arts & Culture as well as affiliate faculty at Nevada State College. A 2018 Red Rock Canyon Artist in Residence, Angela served as the inaugural poet of the program. Mojave in July is her debut full-length poetry collection, and in 2018 her chapbook, Plutonium & Platinum Blonde, was published by Serving House Books. Juror Jeff FulmerIn addition to being an artist, Jeff Fulmer is a Coordinator and Adjunct Faculty Member in the Fine Arts Department at the College of Southern Nevada (CSN) where he teaches a range of courses and manages the College’s art galleries and permanent collection. Jeff studied sculpture, art theory, graphic design and received his MFA from UNLV in 2000. In 1997 he earned his BA from Wabash College in Crawfordsville, Indiana with concentrations in painting and drawing. Jeff has taught at UNLV, Wabash College, Herron School of Art, and most recently CSN. He has exhibited his paintings and sculptures regionally and nationally. Jeff has completed public art commissions through the City of Las Vegas and through Clark County, Nevada. He earned a Jackpot Grant from the Nevada Arts Council and that National Endowment for the Arts and a commission from the State of Nevada and Nevada Humanities in 2018. Juror Robin Slonina
Robin Slonina is a multidisciplinary artist whose work includes bodypainting, sculpture and painting. Robin is best known as a Producer and Judge on the hit body-painting competition show Skin Wars, now in it’s 3rd season on Netflix.
Robin graduated from the School of the Art Institute in her native Chicago, but Las Vegas has been her adopted home for the past 15 years, where she founded the world-famous event company Skin City Body Painting.
Her art has been exhibited internationally at galleries and museums around the world. When not traveling and creating art, Ms. Slonina also gives her time and talent to the many charities and community projects she passionately supports.
Juror Anja Whitemyer
Born and raised in Germany, in October 2001 she moved to the United States (Santa Clarita, California) and in 2014 she moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. Anja grew up with a musical and painting father and a mom working in the fashion industry.
Music, art, and fashion those are still things that she finds fascinating and have a huge impact on her today’s life.
In her twenties she traveled with her motorcycle around Europe, especially Spain, France, Italy and England. Seeing different countries, cities and meeting new people influenced her in her profession and taught her to look closely and find beauty in everyday things.
Growing up with a painting father, Anja grabbed the paintbrush the minute she could walk. She got a scholarship at the Hochschule für bildende Künste Hamburg (HFBK Hamburg) = University of fine Arts in Hamburg, but due to a family tragedy she had to step away from a career in the arts until she moved into the USA. She worked as a documentary photographer for her artist friends in Germany, Amsterdam and London.
In September 2003 she gave birth to her daughter, and turned her longtime passion photography back into a her Photography business.
In 2016 – 2017 she was the curator of Jana’s Redroom Art gallery in Las Vegas – Gallery closed 2017. Anja is owner of her own Art Gallery AW Gallery since 2017 located in the Artsfactory, Las Vegas.
