Aug-Oct Featured Artist: Tracy French

Featured Artist Tracy French

Featured Artist Bio

Tracy French is a Las Vegas based artist working from her home studio. As a self-taught artist, Tracy has developed her personal style through experimentation. Each element of her work has slowly evolved to represent some aspect of our shared experience.

The tangled lines of writing layered into her work remind us of everything left unsaid. Feelings too complicated to speak aloud. The fibers pull on the connections between us. Her portraits communicate strength and vulnerability, honesty and deception. Her work aims to reveal the vibration underlying our interactions; the resonance of our defenses.
Tracy experiments with a variety of mediums, but returns most often to watercolor, ink, fiber, and found objects. Her ideas begin first as a feeling and are often connected to literature, music, or poetry. Above all she is inspired by the unspoken and unknowable that lies within each of us.

June / July Featured Artist: Mike Davies

Featured Artist Mike Davies

Featured Artist Bio

Award winning artist Mike B. Davies is truly a triple threat, with amazing skills in sculpture, painting and drawing/printmaking.  Displaying many styles in each discipline, his subject matter is as diverse as his talents. With examples in his painting such as animal and human portraiture, land and seascape, along with abstract works and design. His sculptural works include wood, metal and polymer clay. He often employs movement by way of electric motors and built in lighting in many pieces.

Though very serious about his work he doesn’t hesitate to incorporate his sense of humor into many of his pieces often hidden in the fine details. Mike’s work lends itself to a long look in order to discover these details.

Mike is an artist to watch and keep up with in his journey in the art world.

Artist’s Statement: Mike B. Davies

The method and procedure I choose to work in is very much like a working musician. I produce my work in series of about 9 – 10 pieces in a theme, very much like producing an album, maybe a few single unrelated works, before the next “album” gets started.  The next step is promotion and showing to get the previous projects out in the public to sell or just get feedback. Like any artist I enjoy having my work perform.

Improvisation is a mainstay of my creative process, starting a project on what could be a thin concept or idea for an image, studying my own progress and letting the idea grow into a personality.

I will often choose to do an experimental piece to determine my next direction. Whether it be paintings, in one of my many styles, sculptural works, drawing or printmaking? The bottom line is I will not be categorized or pidgin holed into any form or style just to have name recognition.  Usually having many projects in the works at a time in different mediums and styles. A top priority for me as an artist is progress. My series work is always striving to form into whatever vision I maybe harboring from one day to the next. My vision changes, my work changes.

Being self-taught has given me the opportunity and the freedom to believe that I can produce anything, if I teach myself the method.

April / May Featured Artist: Ken Flanagan

Featured Artist Ken Flanagan
Ken Flanagan is a self taught Artist living in Las Vegas. After spending many years raising his children, Ken’s desire to create Art blossomed. He very quickly honed the talent he had as a young boy in New York. Finding his penchant for acrylic paint he initially decided to meld his love of sports and art. The first set of what came to be his “iconography” series, we’re sports icon portraits with a twist. The portraits were done in black + white with a small overlay of color. The b+w portions represented the Public image of the athlete and the Color section showed their humanity. This “iconography” set turned into two more series….the second being Kens favorite Artists and the third is a more general series of well known icons. Ken also paints many other full color portraits including each of his sons, his late sister-in-law, his Fathers Naval service and many others. Ken continues to explore new mediums and has recently created his second sculpture. Artist Statement

Nature and love are my greatest inspirations; the inner fire that creates balance, unity, and peacefulness in every woman. Those emotions are translated with colors and brush strokes that create textures and movements around my paintings. My art is an invitation to introspection, welcoming love to life itself and everything that surrounds us.

Biography

Sylvia Aldebol was raised in Puerto Rico surrounded by music and art, which fed her desire to study Fine Arts and graduate with honors at the Inter-American University. There, Sylvia studied painting, photography, sculpture, ceramic, silk-screen and graphic arts. Since then, painting and graphic design have been part of her everyday life by creating works of art for various companies and for private collections, mastering her talent with acrylic painting.

After moving to San Diego California in 2011, Sylvia started SA Art & Design with the purpose of connecting to art lovers through her website and social media. Now living in Henderson Nevada, she has found many diverse artistic groups, such as Las Vegas Art Guild, Boulder City Art Guild and The City Lights Art Gallery that encourage artistic development to their members.

Sylvia’s greatest inspiration is nature and love; the inner fire that creates balance, unity, and peacefulness in every woman. Those emotions are translated with bright colors and brush strokes that create textures and movements around her paintings. It is an invitation to self-introspection, welcoming love to life itself and everything that surrounds us.

She hopes her visions of beauty, color and movement are of your enjoyment.
